Making The Most Of The Great London Weather

To Be In The Garden And Gardening Is My Passion And A Hobby

It's been a hard few years not being able to go out and do any gardening when it is a passion of mine but due to all the problems I have recently had it hasn't been something that I have been able to get out there and do but I am back in the grove now. But the green fingers are back and enjoying what is genuinely a great passion and a hobby!

I buy my flowers and plants from a lady that I just chose and pay for and she delivers them to my door as I could never manage them by hand. I did order quite a few plants from a site and I got an e-mail saying can't be dispatched until the end of June or May or July you chose because they certainly did and normally that would be fine but buy the time they got to me would be when they should be nursed into my garden. So I asked them to cancel the lot. You learn a great deal from other keen gardeners about how far apart you should plant certain things as I have found out because I am doing an area which is just for herbs, never going to use them just to look at but I planted some mint and that grows like you can't believe as in it spreads so not to plant anything too close to it so I am waiting to see this happen.

I hired someone to clear the garden and put up a back fence as it had now rotten so I have planted some Ivy along it the people who live behind me have loads of plants and is totally out of control so when I got the Ivy I saw they had right behind the new fence some Ivy and pulled it over the new fence of mine and now it reaches the border I have planted it in so it will be growing along the fence twice as quick as before. I don't think it's really stealing I think of it as recycling something unwanted and not cared for and I will now be giving it a new home and a new garden to thrive in.

As for the lawn I decided that I didn't want any grass so now instead I have some fabulous wood chips which are a deep rich brown almost a red colour and it looks fantastic. The idea of doing this came to me when my friend and neighbour two doors down from me said she wanted to put shale onto her garden which she already had cleared although they left loads behind so it will need to be cleared yet again now I did get a lot of quotes from a few different sites that she told me about and some of the quotes she got were off the wall stupid but then again I think that these stupid quotes were purely because they knew it wasn't for them so they priced themselves out the market. Now she has a son that is I think seven or eight so if he picked up the shale and threw it then she would be paying for lots of new windows in her flats. I like this lady very much but she is one of those people who isn't sure what she wants one week after another which could be why some of these people that came to give her quotes priced themselves out. Last time I saw her she wanted Astro Turf and another time she wanted shale, she hadn't thought of doing what I have had done but after seeing my garden now that is on her menu of could be, have to wait and see what she does but I did ask my gardener to go and see her garden and chat to her but he said she wants so many different things here and there that he didn't think he wanted to do it but would wait and see. I hope she goes with him because he is absolutely fantastic at what he does and he works with his wife who loves to garden which was a perfect partnership as far as my garden has gone and it has all gone to plan and the plan A and plan B was that it could be a garden which needed very little maintenance that was the aim and now I have it and I won't be needing any help to look after it.

Liz - Is gardening the new rock and roll, I personally don't think it has ever gone out of fashion.
